Kira Barden has been actively involved in LGBT community events for many years. In her undergraduate college years, she was an officer of the Lesbian Bisexual Alliance and worked for a campus group, SAFE Women, which provided medical and safe sex information to students. She holds a BA from Agnes Scott College with a double major in Women’s Studies and Psychology. Her Doctoral coursework in Industrial-Organizational Psychology was completed at CUNY,Graduate Center and Baruch College.
Kira is Manager, Talent Management at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. In her role, she is responsible for the associate survey program and HR analytics across the organization.
From 2006 to 2010, Kira was Director of Strategic HR Measurement and Research for AXA Equitable in New York City.
While working at AXA Equitable, Kira was instrumental in starting AXA Pride, the LGBT employee resource group, and took the lead for planning the company’s 2010 pride events. She also volunteered as a Diversity and Inclusion trainer traveling across locations educating colleagues about the importance of a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Kira was a 2010 Rising Star nominee for the Women’s Bond Club, a professional networking group for future leaders in Financial Services. She won AXA’s 2009 Innovation Award for her work in implementing team based flexibility at the firm.
Kira has volunteered in various capacities at the LOFT for six years: Vice President of the Board of Directors (2009-2011); Secretary of the Board of Directors (2006-2009); Chair of the Personnel and Executive Director search committees; facilitating the Friday night women’s group; organizing potlucks and movie nights; organizing clothing/toiletry drives to help LGBT youth; displaying artwork as part of the LOFT Art Show; and training facilitators and Helpline volunteers.
