LOFT Peer Support Services

 

Young Adult Trans Peer Support Group

Open topic group run by a trained facilitator for individuals, ages 18-29,  who identify as trans, transgender, transsexual, non-binary, gender non-conforming, cross-dresser, gender variant, gender queer or intersex.  No fee to attend but a $5 donation is welcome.
Takes place the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 6:30pm-8pm.

 

LGBT Mental Health Group

The LOFT’s LGBT Mental Health Peer Support Group  is for members of the LGBTQ community, ages 18 and over, who are living with a mental health condition either diagnosed or undiagnosed. The group is open-topic, with no preregistration or fee required. The  group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 7:30pm-9pm. The June dates will be June 2nd & June 16th.

 

Lesbian Social Network

This LOFT group is for women who identify as lesbian.

The group’s emphasis is on socializing, making friends, and having fun in a self-affirming environment for lesbians. We also plan outings off-site in between meetings at The LOFT, often joining our entire LGBT family on various LOFT OUTings.

We meet every 2nd and 4th Friday at The LOFT, 7:30pm-9:00pm

 

Young Adult Transgender Process Group

This group is currently enrolling new attendees contact Center Lane staff member Amy Nichols at anichols@wjcs.com or 914-423-0610.  It is open to any individuals ages 18 to 29 who identifies as transgender, non-binary, GNC or is questioning their gender identity/expression. This group is a collaboration of WJCS’ Center Lane and The LOFT: LGBT Community Center and is professionally facilitated.
This group is designed to help members:

1. Become conscious of what is going on inside themselves
2. Become conscious of how they are interacting with the group
3. Become more aware of themselves and the people they interact with on a regular basis.

 

 

Men’s Discussion and Activity Group

Open topic group run by a trained facilitator for men who identify as gay, bisexual or are questioning their sexuality. No fee to attend, but a $5 donation is welcome.
Takes place the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evenings of each month, starts at 7:30 pm.

 

Bisexual Discussion and Activity Group

Open topic group run by a trained facilitator.  Group is for those who identify as bisexual or are questioning their sexuality. No fee to attend, but a $5 donation is welcome.
Takes place the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings of each month, starts at 7:30 pm.

 

Transgender Discussion and Activity Group

Open topic group run by a trained facilitator for individuals who identify as transgender, transsexual, cross-dresser, gender variant, gender queer or intersex. Partners of transgender group participants are also welcome.  No fee to attend but a $5 donation is welcome.
Takes place the 1st and 3rd Sundays at 4:00pm and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at 7:30pm.

 

20-Something Group Discussion and Activity Group

Open to any LGBTQ persons between the ages of 20 & 29.
Open topic discussion group takes place the 2nd Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Activities are listed on The LOFT website and are scheduled throughout the year. No fee to attend discussion group but a $5 donation is welcome.

 

LOFT Resources and Education

 

LOFT Queer Tech Talks (LQTT)

A discussion group for the queer folks in the digital age  LQTT is organized by LOFT Edu, a program to promote lifelong learning in an LGBT safe place.  LQTT uses technology to bring the community together for real, face-to-face connections, rooted in rich and meaningful co-created experiences.  Group meeting takes place on the last Thursday of each month at 7PM.  A suggested donation of $5 helps pay for the room (more if you can, less if you can’t).

 

LOFT Library

Lending library containing 4,000 LGBT related books, films and reference materials.
Open when the center is open: Monday – Friday and some weekend hours.

 

LOFT Edu

Adult education courses for the LGBT community.
Course offerings are by semester and are listed on The LOFT website.

 

David Bohnett Cyber Center

6 computer terminals, a high-speed color printer and a large-screen monitor for classroom instruction.
Open when the center is open: Monday – Friday and some weekend hours.

 

LOFT Assistance, Health, and Human Services

 

LOFT HelpLine

Resource database for LGBT friendly businesses and services.

Silver Connections

LGBT 55+ senior outreach program.
In partnership with LOFT Generations, intergenerational meetings are held 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Wednesdays, and 3rd Friday from 10:30 to 12:00 at The LOFT.
Silver Connections Open Houses are held the 2nd Saturday and 4th Tuesday of the month from 11:30 to 1:00. Lite lunch is provided for the Open House meetings.

Free HIV and STI Testing

Testing for HIV, as well as Hepatitis C, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis.  Testing is fast, free, and discreet. Offered through collaboration with Hudson Valley Community Services (formerly AIDS-Related Community Services).
Takes place the 3rd Tuesday evening each month from 5:00 to 8:00. Last appointment taken at 7:30 pm.

 

LOFT Legal Clinic

Drop-in clinic offering a seminar covering a particular legal topic followed by one-on-one consultation with an attorney knowledgeable on LGBT legal issues.

Pro-Bono Name Change Project

Part of The LOFT Legal Clinic for transgender individuals needing assistance to legally change their name.

LOFT Programming, Group Events, and Social Activities

 

LOFT Generations

The LOFT’s LGBT intergenerational group featuring activities and topics for people of all ages. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
LOFT Gen groups include:
Creative Expressions Social meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 10:30am to 12:00pm
Spirituality Support & Discussion meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 10:30am to 12:00pm
LGBT Film Screening & Discussion meets the 3rd Friday of the month at 10:30am

 

OUTWalking

OUTWalking is an outdoor hiking and walking group for the LGBTQ community.  Check The LOFT website for the next walk scheduled.

 

Entertainment at Eight

Screening both contemporary and classic LGBT and mainstream films.
Takes place the 2nd and 4th Saturday evenings of each month at 8 pm.

Networking group for LGBT parents and their children including: open houses, trips and a newsletter.

OUT Professionals

Quarterly LGBT social networking mixer.

Gaymes Night

Social evening of board games & cards.
Held on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of each month at 7

 

LOFT Book Club

Group discussing one LGBT literary selection each month.
Takes places the third Tuesday at 7:30 pm.

 

Memorial Thrift Shop

Thrift store co-run by The LOFT and MUMC. Donations and volunteers welcome.
Open Mon.-Thurs. 10-2, Fri. & Sat. 10-4. Closed Sundays

 

Other Groups that Meet at The LOFT

 

Center Lane

Center Lane a program of Westchester Jewish Community Services for LGBTQ youth and straight allies, ages 13 to 21.

 

TransParentcy meets the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. This group is for transgender/gender nonconforming youth and their parents. The entire group meets together, then the youth and adults split up and have their own meeting with Center Lane staff.

Center Lane LGBTQ Youth Drop-in takes place every Friday from 5:30pm -9pm.  Drop-in is an informal gathering for LGBTQ Youth and their Allies aged 13-21. Snacks and refreshments are available, and drop-in is a safe space that allows you to chat with friends and friendly people in a welcoming environment.

The Drop-in time can be used to browse our the library of books and resources, use the internet, find out about the program services and events happening at Center Lane, or set up a 1-1 appointment with a member of staff. There are often other events that run alongside the drop-in, including planned activities.

 

Alcoholics Anonymous

Meets weekly on Saturday evenings at 6 pm.

 

Al-Anon Adult Child (AAC)

Meets weekly on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm.
